The Toronto Blue Jays are in New York for the second of a three game series with the Yankees. These teams have played four times this season with the Yankees winning three of those games. The Blue Jays have really struggled against the Yankees over the past few seasons winning just 17 of the last 36 meetings and have they actually lost 14 straight games in Yankee Stadium.

Head to Head Trends

Blue Jays have lost 14 straight games in New York
Blue Jays have lost 17 of the last 36 meetings overall.

The New York Yankees are 2nd in the AL East 3.5 games back of the 1st place Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees are 3 games over .500 on the season but they actually have a -0.36 run differential and just a comparison the Cubs who are 11 games under .500 have only a -0.20 run differential so I guess the Yankees are getting the most bang for their buck this season. When playing at home the Yankees average 3.63 runs per game on offense and allow 4.87 runs per game on defense and yet they still have 14-16 record which is absolutely crazy. Starting for the Yankees is the rookie Chase Whitley who is 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA in 6 starts this season. Whitely has pitched great so far this season no doubt about it but he has yet to face a good team with a good offense so we’ll see how he does tonight.

New York Yankees Trends

Yankees are 5-2 in their last 7 overall.
Yankees are 5-1 in Whitleys last 6 starts.
Yankees are 3-9 in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning record.

The Toronto Blue Jays are 1st in the American League East 3.5 games up on the Yankees but that lead has been shrinking over the past week or so. The Blue Jays have one of the best offenses in baseball, they lead the Majors in homeruns with 93 and compare that to the Yankees who have hit just 56 homeruns on the season. The Blue Jays offense has been in bit of a slump of late averaging just 2.10 runs per game over their last 10. A big reason for this is that they have only hit 4 homeruns over that period so maybe they can turn that around tonight with the short right field of Yankee Stadium. On the mound for the Jays is lefty Mark Buehrle who is having a great season with 10 wins already and a nice little 2.28 ERA.

Toronto Blue Jays Trends

Blue Jays are 6-1 in Buehrles last 7 road starts.
Blue Jays are 9-3 in their last 12 vs. American League East.
Blue Jays are 10-4 in their last 14 vs. a team with a winning record.

I’m going to go with the Blue Jays in this one tonight even though they have lost 14 straight games in New York I think that’s a streak that is going to come to an end tonight. The Jays have Mark Buehrle on the mound who is having a great season and the Jays offense are just ready to bust out of their recent slump so hopefully that’s going to be tonight.
